MADARA GRUNTMANE

Madara Gruntmane (born 1980 in Liepāja) is a Latvian poet, pianist, artist and a producer of multiple cultural events in Latvia. She graduated from Liepāja Emīls Melngailis music school and later from Baltic International Academy with a degree in Cultural Project Management. Currently she is studying MA at the Latvian Academy of Arts.
Gruntmane has won Latvian Literature Readers' Choice Award 2016 for her first poetry collection “Narkozes” (“Narcoses”) and Public Broadcasting Award 2019 for her second poetry collection “Dzērājmeitiņa” (“Drunk Daddy's Girl“). Collection ”Narcoses” has been translated into English and Turkish. In addition, some of her poems can be read in Finnish, Estonian, Greek, French, Welsh, Dutch and Lithuanian. Gruntmane´s third poetry book “Aizmīlestība” (”Afterlove”) came out this year. According to the author the book is “a journey in the verb root “love”. It goes up and down like a roller coaster until it leads to the noun – love”.
