MIIA TOIVIO (born 1974) lives and works in Helsinki. She is a poet, a literary critic and a creative writing teacher. She debuted in 2007 with the collection called Loistaen olet (Teos). The second collection, Suut (2012, Poesia), was written together with a poet Marko Niemi. Toivio's newest collection Pysty hiljaisuus (Teos) was published last year.

Toivio loves to perform poems by herself or as a sound duo with Marko Niemi. She has lot of experiences of performing poems, but also in organising numbers of poetry events. Toivio has been active member in the poetry NGO Nihil Interit being also the chief editor of the NGO's review Tuli&Savu in 2003-2006.

Miia Toivio is an active founder member of the cooperative Poesia, the publishing company focused on poetry. The publishing decisions and text editing are based on community cooperation and the equality of the poet and the editor in Poesia. Poesia speaks up for the poetry in the high professional and artistic level, the ecological way of publishing and free access for books.
